Coach Abalahin 101: Philippine Physician Licensure Exam Do's and Dont's in Preparation and During
Good day mga ka-Abalahin, welcome to AbalaTips 101 ni Coach Abalahin, this time I will jump forward ahead to Do's and Dont's in Philippine Physician Licensure exam
Scope and Limitations: this will focus on what to do or what to avoid during Physician Licensure Exam, this will neither focus on study tips, nor testmanship skills, nor how to apply for PRC since me and my idol PPCMD2 with permission, already did previous blogs regarding this for the exams
By Me
By PPCMD2, my idol
Credits to PPCMD2 and his colleagues for granting me permission not just to share but also to give insight on what to do during the exams
Let me focus on some of the things that are not present in the blogs above, let us use question and answer format on this blog
1. When is the best time that I should really prepare for the board exams?
-to be honest, once you had started medical school, that is also the start when you are studying for the board exams, that's why active learning is emphasized in subjects, for longer memory retention and correlation to other subjects as well as your learning goes by
- reviewing for the board exam also the re-reviewing of foundations should start when you are on your 4th year while reviewing for the revalida (or in some medical schools, they have this battery test or comprehensive exams before promoted to 3rd year) okay going back to 4th year, ideally 6 months to 1 year is the best (please please please, do not do it on less than 6 weeks for revalida and especially PLE preparation during your PGIship) if you had vacant time revirew its very important
**same goes for my alma matter for interns now they have what they called "mandatory mockboards" which if you failed the mockboards, or you did not take the mockboards, your credentials will not be released
2. Dok, what textbook or materials can you recommend for studying Philippine physician boards?
- Actually in the medschool, I would recommend the textbooks that is used by the respective departments (pls clink link for the blog regarding this one and how to approach them)
- In terms of preparation here are the things that I know I can recommend
-Review Center Handouts
- BRS series
- Atlases
-Harrison Internal Medicine Review
- First Aid USMLE Step 1 and 2
- Robbins Review
-Schwartz Surgery Absite
- Snell Clinical Anatomy Review
- Blueprints Obstetrics
**this books- assuming that you really have solid foundations in your medical school then this should be applicable
3. Dok, my Internship is already finished, how many hours of sleep must I have and dok, there is pressure?
- I advise that you get especially in the intensive phase for at least 6 hrs sleep, but in the "lay-low" phase (meaning a month before the 1st day of PLE" and during the 1 week break between get at least 8 hours of sleep. Do not review by quantity since it sacrifices your quality
DO NOT ESPECIALLY during PLE dont sacrifice your sleeping hours and DONT SLEEP IN PLE ITSELF, you will get confused and disoriented which increases your chance to fail the exam. Take note: TRUST THE PROCESS
4. Dok, During PLE, what things must I bring
1. NOA
2. #2 Pencils
3. Sharpener
4. Erasers (ok din original pero exam grade mas maganda rin)
Ito ordinary eraser ito
5. BLACK ballpen
6. Long plastic transparent envelope (mas maganda ung me handle ex adventurer)
7. Long Brown envelope (ideally lagyan nio ng pangalan nio jan ilalagay ang scantron nio habang walang exam)
**pls count your scantron dapat 13 makuha nio (1 scantron for ur info + 12 scantrons for each subject)
8. Mineral water (pakitanggal ang label)
9. Packed lunch or snack (ilagay nio sa ex lock and lock etc na transparent)
10. Calculator (prc allowed calculators)
11. Mga pinapadala ng PRC pa to be passed 1st day (depends sa province site kasi) like Annexes
Given by PPCMD2 Modified by me
Also Tips for the exam (both my words and PPCMD2 et.al)
1. Upon receiving the test paper double check if complete ang mga question, walang mga erasures etc (this way also makakagrasp kayo if anong topics lalabas sa exam)
2. TAKE NOTE AND DONT FORGET TO SHADE YOUR SET, take note whatever is ur set nung Biochemistry ex Set A ka, until sa Preventive Medicine Set A ka dapat, since set din magdedepend ung magiging pagcheck ng scantron mo sa machine if ex Set A ka 1st day all over then Set B nakuha mo sa ex Pharmacology, ibalik mo and manghingi ka ng Set A dapat parepareho set mo all da way from Biochem (day 1) until Prev Med (day 4)
3. Ingatan and wag hayaan mabasa, mayupi ang scantron, sayang kasi if di na read ng machine
4. Dont write or fold anything sa barcodes sa gilid and sa parang mga code dun sa katabi "do not forget to shade" baka maging marks yan and puede kau mapatawag ng prc jan sa marks na yan
5. Sa subject box write the subject as it is no shortcut or change name (IN BLACK BALLPEN ONLY)
Ex. Surgery, ENT, Ophtha ---> WRONG
Surgery, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology and Rhinology --> CORRECT
IM --> Wrong
Medicine --> Correct
**Basta kung ano nakasulat sa subject sa blackboard
6. REMOVE THE LABELS sa drinking water nio if bottled water (wilkins, summit, nature spring etc....) kasi ipapatanggal din sa inyo yan, same sa mga baon din preferrably use no label and transparent lunch boxes to be safe
Dagdag ni Dok Abalahin
7. Take note the Annexes in PRC if scan the qr or manually done
